MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested a Jordanian national who is wanted in the United Arab Emirates for a string of criminal cases.
Tarek Nihad Siam, 45, was nabbed by agents of the BI Fugitive Search Unit in Ermita, Manila on Feb. 23, according to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.
Based on the Interpol’s National Central Bureau in Manila, Siam is wanted in Abu Dhabi for physical assault, indecent assault and alcohol abuse.
He was sentenced to one year in prison by a UAE court.
Siam was previously arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on charges of illegal possession of firearms and slight physical injuries.
Morente said Siam would remain in NBI custody pending the resolution of the cases filed against him before the Makati prosecutor’s office.
Reports said the NBI apprehended Siam after he allegedly harassed hotel employees and threatened security guards with a handgun.
Siam is also facing charges of violation of the Omnibus Election Code and Republic Act 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The Manila Regional Trial Court has also issued a warrant for Siam’s arrest for violating Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination.
