NPA hideout in Zambales seized

Michael Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — An abandoned rebel camp has been seized by the military in Candelaria, Zambales, authorities said yesterday.

The camp, believed occupied by the New People’s Army-Komiteng Larangang Guerrilla-Tarlac-Zambales, (NPA-KLG-TarZam), was discovered by soldiers who were patroling in the area.

“Troopers found food containers and communist propaganda materials at the camp. The place must be the cooking area or drop-off point of the KLG-TarZam,” Maj. Gen. Andrew Costelo, chief of the Army’s 7th Infantry Division, said.

Col. Joseph Norwin Pasamonte, chief of the Army’s 703rd Infantry Brigade, said the strength of the KLG-TarZam has been weakened by the continuous and intensive military operations.
