MANILA, Philippines — A man who admitted to breaking into the car of actor Gerald Anderson and stealing his valuables has surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

John Allen Dancel turned himself in to the NBI’s Special Action Unit (SAU) on Feb. 7, the agency said on Friday.

The NBI-SAU said it failed to arrest Dancel and another suspect, Benjamin Carreon Jr., during a hot pursuit operation at Carreon’s house in Tondo, Manila on Feb. 3.

According to the NBI, one of three men smashed the window of Anderson’s car, parked outside a gym in Quezon City and took two bags containing P830,000 in valuables on Jan. 30.

A day after the robbery, Anderson found out his mobile wallet account on coins.ph was hacked. The NBI traced the hacking to Carreon.

NBI agents who raided Carreon’s house found some of Anderson’s belongings in a room Dancel reportedly occupied.

Dancel filed a statement declaring he sold two of Anderson’s watches for P150,000 to a certain Lianny “Yhang” Carlos.

Dancel – as well as his alleged accomplices John Louie Rosario and Isagani dela Cruz, who are at large – were charged with robbery with force upon things, the NBI said.

The three men are said to belong to a “basag-kotse” robbery group based in Tondo, the agency said.
