MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday acquired P576.67 million worth of mobile assets and communication equipment to boost the capabilities of its operational units.

PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos led the blessing of the equipment at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

Carlos lauded President Duterte for the administration’s support for the operational needs of the police force.

“We can reciprocate this through better police service to the people,” the PNP chief said.

Among the latest addition to the assets of the police organization are 10 high-speed tactical water vessels powered by twin 250 horsepower engines, which will beef up the existing fleet of gunboats of the Maritime Group and the Special Action Force.

Carlos said the PNP elite units would use the water vessels for seaborne operations and preventive patrols along the country’s 36,000-kilometer shoreline and coastal borders.

Also included in the procurement package are 34 utility trucks, 123 patrol vehicles, 170 low-band VHF tactical radio sets and 1,628 handheld digital mobile radio transceivers.

The equipment were distributed to mobile force companies, police stations and other PNP operational units.

“These vehicles and communication equipment make up the backbone of police operations,” Carlos said.

The procurement was sourced from the PNP’s Capability Enhancement Program for 2020 and 2021.

Carlos said the public should expect immediate response from the police with the availability of communication equipment.

“We can respond immediately to calls for police assistance and emergencies,” he said.
