MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday inaugurated a 15-story housing project in Vitas, Tondo.
Moreno said the P1-billion Tondominium is one of the city government’s flagship housing projects for slum dwellers.
He opened the first tower yesterday.
Moreno said the housing project can accommodate 336 families in 44-square-meter units.
The mayor said this is part of his campaign promise to provide housing to the poor.
Moreno turned emotional during the inauguration as he recalled his past growing up in the slums of Tondo.
Moreno promised to replicate his housing projects for the country if he wins as president in May.
The city’s other housing projects under development are the P401-million Binondominium, 20-story San Lazaro Residences in Sta. Cruz, 20-story Pedro Gil Residences in San Andres Bukid and the 20-story San Sebastian Residences in Quiapo.
The two-story Basecommunity with 229 housing units in Port Area opened in July last year.
