New QCPD chief assumes post

MANILA, Philippines — The former chief anti-narcotics officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP) took over the leadership of the Quezon City Police District on Saturday.

Brig. Gen. Remus Medina, who previously headed the PNP Drug Enforcement Group, replaced Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra, who was appointed commander of the Calabarzon police.

Medina vowed to continue Yarra’s programs, especially in the fight against drugs and crime.

“I believe that continuity is an important factor to sustain the momentum of our gains whether in the administrative or operational aspect of governance,” Medina said.

He warned corrupt police officers to stop their nefarious schemes, saying he would  not hesitate to punish them.

“I will continue the reward and punishment system for our personnel and focus on imposing discipline that the public should want of their police by adopting internal and practical reforms for erring policemen,” he said.

A member of the Philippine National Police Academy Class of 1993, Medina held key posts such as senior executive assistant at the Office of the chief PNP and chief intelligence officer of the National Capital Region Police Office.

Metro Manila police chief Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. presided over the turnover ceremony on Saturday.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte was represented by assistant city administrator for operations Alberto Kimpo.
