BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — A city mayor in Negros Occidental has asked the National Bureau of Investigation to identify the people who hacked her Facebook account.
The account of Mayor Gina Montilla-Lizares of Sipalay City was reportedly used by the hacker to solicit money.
The local government said the hacking occurred on Feb. 3, two days before Vice President Leni Robredo arrived in the city to lead the distribution of temporary shelter kits to typhoon-affected families in Barangay Gil Montilla.
The city government advised the public to ignore any communication or request made on the Facebook account under the name “Gina Montilla.”
“Kindly confirm, report, and send us a screenshot of this particular Facebook account if you have received messages asking for money or donations,” it said.
Three persons reportedly sent money amounting to P15,000 and P27,000 to someone using the account of the mayor.
