MANILA, Philippines — Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels killed a policeman in an ambush in San Miguel, Catanduanes on Tuesday.
Bicol police director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo said the fatality, Senior M/Sgt. John Teston, was among six policemen tasked to serve the arrest warrants for two most wanted persons in the province.
Estomo said the policemen were on their way back to the police station after the subjects of the warrants could not be located when the rebels opened fire in Barangay J. M. Alberto at around 6 a.m.
The NPA rebels took Teston’s cell phone, firearm and wallet before they fled the scene as police and military reinforcements arrived.
