Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A follower of slain Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon surrendered in Basilan on Tuesday.

Ismael Ladjatua, alias Abu Macca, 50, also turned over his rifle to Joint Task Force Basilan commander Brig. Domingo Gobway.

Ladjatua said he went into hiding following the death of Hapilon and relentless military offensives in Basilan.

Gobway commended Ladjatua for his decision to surrender.

He also acknowledged the initiatives of local government officials, local leaders as well as members of the Moro National Liberation Front and Moro Islamic Liberation Front to address and counter extremism in the province.
