BOC: No takers for 5 ‘hot’ cars
MANILA, Philippines — The government has failed to dispose of five luxury vehicles confiscated from smugglers, leaving the Bureau of Customs (BOC) with no option but to either destroy the cars or donate these to public offices.
The BOC yesterday declared failed biddings for the luxury cars offered for a total cost of P29.09 million.
The auction marked the second time that the BOC, together with the Bureau of the Treasury and LandBank of the Philippines, failed in its effort to sell the smuggled cars.
There were no takers for a used 2001 Porsche Boxster for P1.8 million and a used 2001 Mercedes SLK350 worth P1.25 million.
The BOC said there were also no bidders for a 2008 Ferrari Scuderia 430 priced at P23.23 million, a 2001 Mercedes SLK55 for P1.32 million and a 2001 Mercedes E220 worth P1.49 million.
