863 loose guns seized in Zamboanga peninsula

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines— At least 863 loose firearms seized in Zamboanga peninsula were turned over to the regional police headquarters yesterday.

Brig. Gen. Franco Simborio, regional police director, said the Zamboanga City police recovered 245 of the guns; Zamboanga del Sur, 284; Zamboanga del Norte, 178; Zamboanga Sibugay, 127, and Isabela City in Basilan, 29.

A representative from the Commission on Elections witnessed the  turnover.

“The turnover and safekeeping are part of the measures to prevent the proliferation of loose firearms especially during the elections,” Maj. Shellamie Chang, regional police public information officer, said.
