Eleazar catches COVID-19
MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate and former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Guillermo Eleazar tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
Eleazar said he would undergo home quarantine.
“I received my RT-PCR test result on Tuesday night, which showed that I am infected with COVID-19 for the first time,” he said in a statement.
Eleazar said he is asymptomatic.
“I will follow the home isolation protocol of the Department of Health until I am cleared to go out,” he said.
Eleazar is running for senator under the Partido Reporma of presidential aspirant Sen. Panfilo Lacson.
Last week, Lacson announced that he tested positive for COVID-19.
Eleazar urged the public to get vaccinated or get booster shots.
“Because this is what the government’s vaccination program is all about – to prevent serious effects of COVID infection,” Eleazar said.
Meanwhile, the PNP allowed personnel who are infected with COVID-19 but are asymptomatic to quarantine at home after cases in the police force ballooned to 2,843. – Emmanuel Tupas
