MANILA, Philippines — Beginning on Saturday, portions of the southbound and northbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard will be closed for four months to allow for repair works on a 52-year-old box culvert in front of the Libertad pumping station in Pasay, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced yesterday.

For the first two months, all types of vehicles will be barred from using the southbound lane of the thoroughfare, from HK Sun Plaza going to the flyover of EDSA-Roxas Boulevard.

Once the first phase of the drainage repair works are completed, the MMDA said the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard will be closed for two months to finish the project.

MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said alternate routes and zipper lanes would be made available during the four-month road closure.

“Because of the structural integrity of the project, the Department of Public Works and Highways said the structure might weaken,” Abalos said.

The MMDA laid down alternate routes for the affected motorists, he said.

“Traffic signs will also be placed at strategic locations to better guide the public,” he added.

Neomie Recio, director of the MMDA’s Traffic Engineering Center, said they would deploy enforcers to manage traffic in the area.
