MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 average daily attack rate (ADAR) was highest in Metro Manila and Cainta, Rizal in the past week with 59.81 percent and 55.37 percent, respectively, the OCTA Research Group reported yesterday.

OCTA fellow Guido David said local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR), Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon and Central Luzon posted the highest numbers of new COVID-19 infections from Jan. 2 to 8.

Based on the OCTA report, Metro Manila posted an average of 8,468 new COVID-19 cases in the past week, an increase of 785 percent compared to only 957 from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.

Cainta logged 202 new COVID-19 cases over the past week for a reproduction rate of 1,343 percent from only 13 infections the previous week.

David said other LGUs with the highest ADARs in the past seven days include General Trias City, Cavite (32.35 percent); Bacoor City, Cavite (31.71 percent); Meycauayan City, Bulacan (28.45 percent); San Mateo, Rizal (27.62 percent) and Marilao, Bulacan (27.59).

The list also includes Taytay, Rizal (24.08 percent); Antipolo City (24 percent); San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan (21.95 percent); Santa Rosa City, Laguna (21.72 percent); San Pedro City, Laguna (20.56 percent) and Santa Maria, Bulacan (20.42 percent).

David also identified Dasmariñas City, Cavite (19.70 percent); Rodriguez, Rizal (18.90 percent); Malolos City, Bulacan (18.31 percent); Biñan City, Laguna (15.56 percent); San Fernando City, Pampanga (14.74 percent) and Calamba City, Laguna (14.54 percent) among those having high ADARs during the past week.
