Suspect in Cavite fiscal’s slay nabbed
MANILA, Philippines — A man tagged in the killing of a government prosecutor in Cavite on New Year’s Day has been arrested, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday.
PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said the suspect, identified as Marvin Linaban, 44, admitted to investigators that he “participated” in the shooting of Trece Martires assistant city prosecutor Edilbert Mendoza.
Linaban was arrested with another man during an anti-drug operation in Dasmariñas, Cavite on Friday.
Carlos said Linaban “expressed willingness to execute an extra-judicial confession in the presence of a lawyer of his choice.”
The other suspect, Elvin Esguerra, 40, was wounded during an alleged shootout with the arresting team. Linaban and Esguerra each reportedly yielded a pistol and several plastic sachets containing shabu with an estimated street value of P69,000.
The firearms were submitted for ballistic examination.
