92% of Odette-hit power lines restored
MANILA, Philippines — Power restoration works remain in full swing in areas hit by Typhoon Odette despite a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country, the Department of Energy (DOE) said.
“We have not seen yet if it’s slowing us down because the contingents on the ground are there providing the services,” DOE Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella told a virtual press briefing yesterday.
National Grid Corp. of the Philippines assistant vice president and technical management department head Giovanni Galang said 92 percent of all affected transmission lines has been restored.
He said restoration efforts are concentrated in Cebu, Bohol and Leyte after those in Panay, Mindanao and Negros were completed.
National Electrification Administration project officer Mark Ian Francisco said only 22 electric cooperatives are partially energized.
Damage to electric cooperatives due to the typhoon has reached P3.37 billion.
Francisco said power has been restored in 78.34 percent of the affected municipalities or 69.38 percent of households.
