MANILA, Philippines — Five Chinese were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a fellow Chinese in Parañaque City on Monday.
Hu Yang, Zhang Jie, Cen Sha Lu, Shen Fa and Han Xu were apprehended along with their Filipino cohort Hazel Cotaco, according to city police Chief Col. Maximo Sebastian Jr.
Police said the suspects were allegedly responsible for kidnapping Shaomen Hu.
Shaomen’s friend, Jie Sun, sought police assistance after he received messages through WeChat, saying the victim had been kidnapped.
The suspects allegedly asked P700,000 in ransom in exchange for Shaomen release.
Members of the Southern Police District hatched an operation, resulting in the suspects’ arrest.
Authorities said Han allegedly yielded a sachet of shabu worth P11,990 and P20,000 in marked money.
The suspects are being held on charges of kidnapping and violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
