MANILA, Philippines — Three people were killed and four were wounded after a man went on a shooting rampage in Makati City yesterday.

The shooting occurred along Magnolia street in Barangay Rizal at around 2:30 a.m., according to Makati police chief Col. Harold Depositar.

He identified the fatalities as Raymund Libaton, 52; Petronio del Rosario, 50, and Francis Lloyd Libaton, 21.

Four other victims, namely Maria Elago, 57; Ian Jayson Biandio, 26; Janet Libaton, 52; and Lester Magcanas, 28, are recuperating from their injuries at the Ospital ng Makati.

Quoting a police report, Depositar said the suspect, Roderick Perez, 41, was riding a scooter with his 12-year-old daughter when he had an altercation with the victims, who were having a drinking binge.

Perez, whom police said is a safety and emergency medical services officer of the Red and Blue Medical Services Co, allegedly argued with the victims for occupying a portion of the narrow street.

Bystanders intervened and prevented the confrontation between the two sides from escalating. However, Perez returned several minutes later with a .45 caliber pistol.

“The suspect went home with his daughter, only to return armed with a firearm,” Depositar said in a report.

Perez shot the victims repeatedly, then escaped on foot towards an unknown direction. He later surrendered to the Comembo police sub-station 9.

Probers recovered several bullet casings and fragments at the scene of the shooting.

Police are preparing charges of three counts of murder and multiple frustrated murder against Perez.
