PCG barge runs aground in Pangasinan

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A barge of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ran aground at a coral reef sanctuary in Bolinao, Pangasinan on Monday.

The POE 86 Kuching was unmanned and had no cargo on board when it figured in the accident that occurred 1.5 nautical miles from the shores of Silaqui Island.

In a Viber message to journalists, the PCG said there were no traces of oil spill at the site of the accident.

It said it assisted the municipal government of Bolinao in assessing the extent of the damage along with personnel of the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute.

The PCG said it continues to monitor the condition of the barge.
