MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government will extend an additional P20 million in financial aid to areas ravaged by Typhoon Odette last week.

During a special session yesterday, the city council approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Joy Belmonte to donate the amount to typhoon-affected areas.

Based on the resolution, P10 million will be donated to Bohol. The remaining P10 million will be divided equally among the municipalities of Ayungon, Bais, Bindoy, Jimalalud, La Libertad, Manjuyod, Tayasan, and Vallehermoso in Negros Oriental and Ronda and Dumanjug in Cebu.

The city council earlier approved a resolution authorizing Belmonte to extend financial assistance of P1 million each to the municipalities of Anahawan, Hinundayan, Libagon, Limasawa, Padre Burgos, Pintuyan, San Francisco, San Juan, San Ricardo and Tomas Oppus in Southern Leyte.

“The people of Quezon City are deeply saddened by the plight of our brothers and sisters in regions that were ravaged by Odette,” Belmonte said.

“We are only seeing the extent of the typhoon’s wrath through media. We hope that this donation will bring you some relief from the effects of the typhoon,” she added.

The recipient municipalities were identified by the QC Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) in consultation with the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

The financial aid, which will be drawn from the city’s DRRM funds, will be sent to the typhoon-hit areas through wire transfer, according to the local government.
