P37 million smuggled agricultural products seized in Subic

Robertzon Ramirez, Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized smuggled agricultural products worth P37 million at the Port of Subic on Tuesday.

The BOC said the shipments were consigned to EMV Consumer Goods Trading and the JKJ International Co.

Prior to the seizure of the agricultural products, the BOC said it conducted intensive profiling of the shipments with similar declarations and suspected to contain misdeclared or undeclared products.

The shipment consigned to EMV Consumer Goods Trading, which was misdeclared as 4,050 packages of “anti-bacterial wet wipes,” were found to contain refined sugar amounting to P11.2 million.

Shipments of red onions, which were declared as mantou and egg tarts with an estimated market value of P25.8 million, were consigned to JKJ International Co.

The BOC said charges for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act are being readied against those behind the smuggled products.
