ANGELES CITY, Philippines — This city did not record any new COVID-19 case for five days since Dec. 17.
Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said hotel quarantine facilities and isolation rooms at the City College of Angeles are now empty.
Alfie Maniti, head nurse at the community isolation units, said the last patient in a hotel quarantine facility was discharged last Sunday.
Lazatin attributed the decline in new infections to the local government’s intensive vaccination drive.
This city is among the 23 highly urbanized cities in the country to achieve herd immunity, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
