MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Council has approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Joy Belmonte to donate P10 million to local government units (LGUs) affected by Typhoon Odette.

During a special session last Monday, the city council approved the consolidated resolution, which will provide P1 million each to the municipalities of Anahawan, Hinundayan, Libagon, Padre Burgos, Pintuyan, San Francisco, San Juan, San Ricardo, Tomas Oppus and Limasawa in Southern Leyte.

The areas were selected by the city government with the help of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

The assistance is separate from the P100-million financial aid from the savings of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority that mayors from the National Capital Region earlier agreed to release as assistance to LGUs affected by Odette.

The resolutions were authored by Councilors Franz Pumaren, Donny Matias and Wency Lagumbay and co-introduced by other members of the city council.

Belmonte earlier issued a certificate of urgency for the immediate approval of the measure, citing the need to provide assistance to affected LGUs as soon as possible.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families severely affected by Typhoon Odette, especially those who lost their loved ones. We hope that you find courage and strength amid the crisis that you currently face,” he added.

The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council earlier passed a resolution also approving the release of the amount, to be sourced from the city’s DRRM Fund.
