Twin Davao bomb threats probed

Edith Regalado - The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Security officials are investigating two bomb threats in this city yesterday.

Without giving details about the supposed threats, the city government said violent extremism could be the motive even as it appealed to Davao residents to remain vigilant at all times.

“On the other hand, threats may be politically motivated from people who have evil intent,” it said in a statement.

The bomb threats came five years after the blast at the Roxas Night Market on Sept. 2, 2016 that left 17 persons dead and 74 others wounded.

The Army-led Task Force Davao was directed to prevent a repeat of the incident.

The public has been asked to report information on planned terror attacks as well as any suspicious activity in their area to the Task Force Davao hotline numbers 224-0911, 0999-2271111 and 0917-1314333.

“Let us cooperate and practice a culture of security. Volunteer, participate, remind and report,” the city government said.
