TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — The University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) in Northern Samar is ready to conduct limited face-to-face classes for its nursing and allied health programs next month.

UEP’s proposal to hold limited face-to-face classes was approved by the provincial inter-agency task force for COVID-19 (PIATF) during a meting with the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council on Dec. 14.

UEP president Cherry Ultra asked the PIATF that the UEP be allowed to hold limited face-to-face classes, saying “this is necessary to increase the students’ level of knowledge in their chosen fields.

Gov. Edwin Ongchuan vowed to support the Ligtas Balik Eskwela initiative of the UEP.

Northern Samar has the lowest attack rate of COVID in Eastern Visayas, local health officials said.

More than 54 percent of the province’s eligible population are fully vaccinated, and the figure is expected to increase in the coming days with the rollout of the second National COVID Vaccination Days from today to Wednesday.
