2 alleged gunrunners nabbed in Taguig
MANILA, Philippines — Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two suspected gunrunners in Taguig City on Monday night.
Nurhasan Amilahasan, 36, and Argel Joseph Fernando, 38, were nabbed in an entrapment operation in Barangay Ususan at around 7:45 p.m., according to CIDG National Capital Region field office chief Col. Randy Glenn Silvio.
The suspects were transacting with a policeman, who posed as a buyer of a loose firearm, when they allegedly pulled out handguns after they sensed it was a sting.
Fernando was arrested while Amilahasan escaped in a sport utility vehicle.
Police chased Amilahasan until he was cornered along MLQ Avenue in Barangay San Miguel.
The suspects allegedly yielded four .38-caliber handguns, P4,000 in marked money and four sachets of shabu.
Probers said the suspects were members of a criminal group involved in gunrunning, drug trade and gun-for-hire activities in southern Metro Manila.
Charges of violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition and RA 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, will be filed against the suspects.
