SUBIC BAY Freeport, Philippines — Smuggled sugar with an estimated value of P16.7 million was seized at the Port of Subic on Friday.

Personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Subic said they received information that a shipment declared as plastic trash bags and floor mops was actually sugar.

The contraband was discovered during an inspection conducted by BOC personnel, according to BOC district collector Maritess Martin.

The shipment was reportedly consigned to the Multi-Subsonic Marketing Company, the BOC said.
