Sulu soldiers allowed to go home for holidays

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines — Soldiers in Sulu will be allowed to go home in batches to spend the Christmas holiday with their families following the successful operations against Abu Sayyaf bandits.

“The soldiers will be having their Christmas break after relentlessly helping us secure Sulu. Let’s give them time to celebrate with their families,” Lt. Jerica Angela Manongdo, public affairs officer of the Joint Task Force Sulu, said.

She said the soldiers were not able to go on a Christmas break for two years due to relentless offensives against Abu Sayyaf bandits and quarantine restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manongdo said soldiers who are not from Sulu would be transported by a  C-130 plane from Sulu to Zamboanga and Manila.

She gave assurance that the campaign against Abu Sayyaf bandits would continue even during the holidays.
