MANILA, Philippines — The government will auction off five smuggled luxury vehicles with an estimated market value of more than P29 million, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) announced yesterday.

A 2001 Porsche worth P1,797,946, a 2001 Mercedes SLK350 worth 1,247,505, a 2008 Ferrari Scuderia costing P23,225,124, a 2001 Mercedes SLK55 worth P1,324,364 and a 2011 Mercedes Benz E220 valued at P1,491,559 will be auctioned off at the Bureau of the Treasury in Intramuros, Manila on Dec. 13.

Proceeds from the sale will be used for the government’s pandemic response, the BOC said.

In the past, the government had destroyed smuggled luxury cars confiscated by the BOC at the ports of entry.

Interested buyers are required to submit a negative RT-PCR or antigen COVID-19 test at least two days before the auction.

Only one representative per bidder will be allowed to enter the venue to ensure that health protocols will be observed, the BOC said.

Participants are also required to wear a face mask.

Interested bidders may register at the Office of the Auction and Cargo Disposal Division of the Manila International Container Port.
