Go assists sectoral groups in Davao City
MANILA, Philippines — After providing assistance to typhoon victims on Friday, Sen. Bong Go and his team continued the relief distribution the following day for another 2,751 beneficiaries composed of members of the LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders) community, indigents and more calamity victims in Davao City.
Go’s team organized three separate activities in the villages of Santo Niño and Alambre as well as in the People’s Park, where they grouped the beneficiaries into smaller batches to ensure safety and compliance with health protocols.
The team distributed food, face masks and grocery packs to the members of the LGBT community as well as the typhoon victims.
Some beneficiaries received new pairs of shoes, bicycles and computer tablets for their children’s online studies.
Representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance to help residents cope up with their daily needs.
The Department of Trade and Industry as well as the TESDA conducted an on-site assessment wherein qualified recipients were given the opportunity to join the governmernt’s livelihood and scholarship programs.
The Department of Health raised awareness on key health concerns such as HIV/AIDS and the COVID pandemi.
The Department of Labor and Employment assessed beneficiaries and provided them livelihood assistance through its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers.
Go interacted with thee LGBTs,and listened to their concerns.
As an advocate of LGBT rights, the senator said that Davao City was among local government units that implemented an anti-discrimination law to protect the welfare of various sectors in the society.
Go, chair of the senate committee on health, informed residents with medical concerns to visit the Malasakit Center at the Southern Philippines Medical Center for convenient access to medical assistance programs.
