2 cyclists dead in Northern Samar road mishap

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — Two cyclists died when their vehicle collided with a truck along the highway in San Isidro, Northern Samar on Monday.

Police said Lando Lance Dolina, 51, a resident of Sagkahan, Tacloban City, and Jake Gatela, 20, of Alangalang, Leyte were in a Ford Ranger on their way home after a cycling competition in Allen town when the accident occurred.

The two were declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

Four other cyclists in the pickup driven by Dave Tabuyan were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Initial investigation showed the pickup collided with the truck when it tried to overtake another vehicle. Both vehicles were reportedly speeding.
