MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) turned over yesterday a total of P52 million in financial assistance to the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Royina Garma, PCSO general manager, said checks for P22.5 million and P8.8 million were issued to the PNP and NBI, respectively.
The cash assistance represented the law enforcement agencies’ share in the small town lottery earnings of the PCSO for the second quarter of the year.
Garma cited the accomplishments of the PNP and NBI in the government’s campaign against illegal gambling.
The PCSO also handed out a check for P21.4 million to CHED as the charity agency’s mandatory financial contribution to higher learning institutions, pursuant to Republic Act 7722 or the Higher Education Act of 1994.
Garma urged the public to keep patronizing lottery and other PCSO games to generate more funds for the government’s healthcare programs and medical assistance for the poor.
Last October, the PCSO turned over P32 million in financial aid to 13 local government units in Metro Manila.
