MMDA reviews mall protocols
MANILA, Philippines — A technical working group (TWG) has been formed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to review COVID-19 protocols in malls, an MMDA official said yesterday.
MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos ordered the creation of a TWG to study the existing health and safety guidelines being enforced in malls, according to Romando Artes, the agency’s general manager.
People, including children, have flocked to shopping malls since Metro Manila was placed under the more relaxed Alert Level 2 this month.
Artes reminded mall owners that under Alert Level 2, only 50 percent indoor capacity is allowed, with an additional 10 percent if the establishment has a safety seal.
“Some parents bring their babies to malls even if the infants cannot yet wear a face mask. That is why Chairman Abalos wants to explore the possibilities that could be done to avoid the spread of the virus,” Artes said.
Artes urged the public not to be complacent despite the easing of quarantine restrictions.
“We should remain vigilant. Let us continue to follow health protocols to have a better Christmas,” he said.
