MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) opened yesterday a footbridge along EDSA-Buendia to give pedestrians safe access to the new loading bay for the bus carousel along the major thoroughfare.

MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos led the inauguration of the EDSA-Buendia footbridge.

“This will provide commuters safe access to the loading and unloading bay for the EDSA bus carousel in the area,” Abalos said. “This will make travel seamless and safer for those using the busway.”

Buendia Avenue in Makati is one of the busiest intersections in the metropolis in terms of pedestrian traffic, according to Abalos.

He said the footbridge would be connected to the MRT-3 pedestrian overpass crossing EDSA southbound.

Meanwhile, Abalos said they are looking to lift the suspension of the number coding scheme.

He said it would be possible to reimpose the traffic scheme if the pre-pandemic speed of 11 kilometers per hour for vehicles plying EDSA would be recorded.

Currently, cars are traveling at 19 kilometers per hour, slower than the 23 kph during the enhanced community quarantine.
