KIDAPAWAN CITY – A soldier, who reportedly went berserk, shot dead one of his superiors at their command post in Tagum City on Tuesday.
City police chief Lt. Col. Ruth Dizon was quoted in a radio report as as saying that the suspect, S/Sgt. Arvin Bureros, escaped after the incident.
Dizon said witnesses, among them S/Sgt. Manuel Quevedo told probers that Majors Franklyn Embat and Minehart Maliaoao and T/Sgt. Sandato Tomas were in a kiosk when Bureros, who was armed with a caliber 5.54 rifle, entered and opened fire.
Embat was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
Maliaoao and Tomas, who were wounded, were in critical condition.
Prior to the incident, Bureros was reportedly heard shouting “tapusin na natin ito” before gunshots were heard.
