Bataan logs high turnout on last day of voter registration

Ric Sapnu - The Philippine Star

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — Bataan residents flocked to the Commission on Elections offices during the last day of the extended voter registration on Saturday.

Long lines of people at the election offices in Limay town and at a mall in Balanga City were seen even past the registration hours, according to Melanio Sibayan, Balanga election officer.

Sibayan said they did not expect that a large number of registrants would turn up.

Poll officers attended to everyone even beyond the closing time.

In the past few days of the voter registration, Sibayan said they usually served an average of 200 to 250 registrants.

“On Saturday, there were more than 300 people who came to register,” Sibayan said.
