Urn theft in Pangasinan probed

Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

SAN JACINTO, Pangasinan, Philippines — Police are investigating a complaint about a missing urn that was believed to have been taken away by a thief at a public cemetery in this town.

The investigation stemmed from a complaint of Alberto de Guzman, 62, who said he visited the cemetery on Sunday and discovered that the urn containing the ashes of his wife was missing.

In a post on social media, De Guzman appealed to whoever took the urn to return it, or even just the ashes of his wife.

De Guzman said the lock of the iron grills that secure a tomb where the urn was placed was also missing.

It was the first time that such an incident occurred in the area, said Maj. Edgar Allan Serquiña, town police chief.
