CEBU, Philippines — Public and private cemeteries in Cebu City will be opened during All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day for those who have been fully vaccinated subject to strict observance of minimum health protocols.

In an order issued by acting Mayor Michael Rama, ”regulated” public access to cemeteries from Oct. 18 to Oct. 30 and Nov. 3 to Nov. 5 for those aged 18 to 65 regardless of vaccination status will also be allowed.

”The pandemic did not only increase the mortality rate but also curtailed the practice on how Cebuanos honor and pay homage to their dead,” Rama's order read.

In Negros Occidental, all memorial parks, cemeteries and will be closed from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 to prevent mass gatherings as the number of COVID cases continues to increase.

At least 4,489 active cases were recorded in the province as of Friday. –/ The Freeman, Gilbert Bayoran
