MANILA, Philippines — There is no discrimination in the implementation of the government’s cash-for-work program for workers displaced by the pandemic, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said there is no discrimination in extending financial aid to employees through the DOLE’s flagship program Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers or TUPAD.
The DOLE provides cash assistance to workers affected by the pandemic, including members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community, according to Bello.
“TUPAD is for all workers so everyone will get financial assistance whether he or she is a member of the LGBTQ or not,” he said.
The cash-for-work program seeks to help informal workers cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The government is here to help. We are going around the country to provide relief to our workers,” Bello said.
He led the distribution of financial aid amounting to P4.076 million to 1,019 TUPAD beneficiaries in Sinoloan, Laguna over the weekend.
