MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipinos and two Malaysians were rescued after their boat capsized in the waters off Tawi-Tawi on Thursday night.
Jerry Erni, Solar de Leon, and Malaysians Hassan Bin Sayadi and Majid Bin Ajahun were reportedly floating for 15 hours before they were found by personnel of the Philippine Navy.
They told authorities that they were headed to Bongao town from Sabah, Malaysia when their boat capsized along the Sibutu Passage.
A bulk carrier that spotted the four reported the incident to a Navy littoral monitoring station in Bongao, which radioed the Naval Forces Western Mindanao, according to Lt. Chester Ross Cabaltera, public information officer of the NFWM.
The Navy deployed its multi-purpose attack craft BA488 and the BRP Juan Magluyan to find and rescue the victims.
The Malaysians thanked the Navy for rescuing them.
