Cadiz mayor catches COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. of Cadiz City in Negros Occidental has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Despite all precautions and strict observance of safety and health protocols at the office and during official business, I was infected by the virus,” Escalante announced yesterday.

He assured his constituents that he would recover soon as he has been fully vaccinated.

Silay City Mayor Mark Golez, who had earlier contracted the virus, completed his 14-day quarantine in a hospital on Thursday.

Mayors Pedro Zayco of Kabankalan and Neil Lizares of Talisay, who were also infected, have recovered.
