MANILA, Philippines — Noting that the COVID-19 pandemic hindered him from achieving his goals for Pasig, Vico Sotto is seeking a second term as mayor of the city.

Joined by his celebrity parents Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes, he officially filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) yesterday without much “drama and suspense.”

In a social media post on Facebook, Sotto assured Pasig residents that whether it’s the political season or not, “uunahin natin ang trabaho (we will put work first).”

He said that since 2019, he has introduced many reforms in the city government, including lowering by P1 billion per year the rates of goods and services purchased by the city.

“Many projects were delayed due to the pandemic. I was only mayor for nine months under a normal situation. Next term, we should work together to take back the time stolen by COVID-19,” Sotto said.

He said in Filipino he wanted “allies I can trust, who are not after position or money, but will be my partners in improving reforms and services of the government.”

Sotto apologized to his supporters because he did not allow them to accompany him when he filed his COC in order to follow the health protocols set by the Commission on Elections.
