Vico Sotto files re-election bid for Pasig City
MANILA, Philippines (Updated 10:30 a.m.) — Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto is seeking another term to head the city.
Sotto was accompanied by his parents, actors Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes, in the filing of his Certificate of Candidacy in the local Commission on Elections office in Pasig on Friday morning.
Sotto on his Facebook page admitted that he faced difficulty in his first term and projects were stalled due to the pandemic, as he recalled that he was only able to serve as mayor “in normal situation” for only nine months.
“So in the coming term, let us help each other to get back the time that COVID-19 stole from us. The reforms are there. Times have changed. We will intensify and ensure that every Pasigueño feel the improved service of the city government,” he continued in Filipino.
In the 2019 elections, Sotto — then councilor — ended the 27 years of the Eusebio clan dominating Pasig City when he garnered more than 200,000 votes.
Former Rep. Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr. (Pasig City) also filed his COC on Friday morning for vice mayor, marking his bid for a comeback in politics. The former basketball star is Sotto’s running mate.
