Teachers’ group seeks overtime pay
MANILA, Philippines — The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) is demanding that the Department of Education (DepEd) fulfill its promise to teachers to release their overtime pay for services rendered before the official start of last school year.
ACT said teachers should be paid for overtime work rendered from June 1 to Oct. 4, 2020, when they were tasked to create self-learning modules at their own expense. The unpaid overtime pay for 87 days amounts to P23,605, according to the group.
“Will it be another case of ‘thank you?’ Will this always be the case? In all things, the teacher foots the expense. DepEd, you should be ashamed,” ACT-National Capital Region union president Vladimer Quetua said in a statement in Filipino.
The teachers’ group earlier warned that its members are going to be absent for one day if the DepEd fails to release the overtime pay before the Oct. 5 deadline.
