MANILA, Philippines — Up to three tropical cyclones may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) next month while five to eight can be expected until the end of the year, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The state weather bureau said a low-pressure area would likely form outside the PAR starting yesterday until Sept. 28.

A low-pressure area was monitored 205 kilometers east-northeast of Pagasa Island in Palawan as of 3 a.m. yesterday.

Forecast data shows the weather system has a high likelihood of becoming a cyclone, but it would recurve toward southern Japan.

PAGASA said a low-pressure vortex formation near or within the PAR by Sept. 29 to Oct. 5 is less likely.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) would affect Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao today.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains are expected over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Zamboanga peninsula and Palawan due to the ITCZ.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience isolated rains due to the ITCZ as well as localized thunderstorms.
