MANILA, Philippines — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar checked over the weekend the progress of the viaduct crossing Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City towards Bonifacio Global City (BGC)’s 8th Avenue in Taguig.
Villar said the viaduct is the last segment to complete the 1.48-kilometer BGC-Ortigas Center road link project implemented by DPWH Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Roads Management Cluster (RMC) 1. The project is targeted to open by the end of the month.
Villar was accompanied during the inspection by DPWH Undersecretary for UPMO operations Emil Sadain, UPMO RMC 1 project director Benjamin Bautista, project manager Ricarte Mañalac, project engineer Emmanuel Regodon and engineer Reynaldo Perez of Persan Construction Inc.
“I am grateful for the dedication of our engineers and workers on the ground undertaking round-the-clock construction, rain or shine, to ensure we meet our target opening of the final viaduct segment of BGC-Ortigas Center road link project,” Villar said.
Sadain said that upon Villar’s orders, “all efforts are currently underway to finish BGC-Ortigas Center road link project phase two or the Lawton Avenue to Global City viaduct this September.”
Sadain said the project will benefit motorists who travel between the commercial districts of BGC and Ortigas.
The first phase of the project, Kalayaan Bridge, was opened ib June 12 and now connects Barangay Sta. Monica in Pasig and Kalayaan Avenue in Makati.
This infrastructure flagship project under the Build, Build, Build program is seen to reduce travel time between BGC and Ortigas to 12 minutes and decongest EDSA and C5 Road.
