2 dead in Pasig flyover crash

MANILA, Philippines — Two persons died and two others were injured when a truck crashed into a car along the northbound lane of C-5 flyover in Barangay Ugong, Pasig at dawn yesterday.

Ayezeh Esgrina, 36, and Mary Ann Galit, 26, were brought to the Pasig City General Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

According to a police report, the fatalities were seated in the back of the car. Driver Jesus Ilagan Canaleta Jr., 30, and another passenger, Mal Abdul, 30, suffered massive physical injuries due to the collision and were taken to another hospital for treatment.

Police said they responded to a call from a traffic enforcer, who reported a hit-and-run along C-5 flyover at around 3:40 a.m.

According to witnesses, the victims were traversing the thoroughfare when a truck hit and dragged the car.

The witnesses told probers that they failed to see the truck’s license plate number as it fled toward Libis, Quezon City.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the still unidentified driver of the truck.
