MANILA, Philippines — The Senate unanimously approved on third and final reading a bill that would rename Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City after the late movie star Fernando Poe Jr.

Voting 22-0-1, senators approved House Bill 7499, which initially sought to rename Del Monte Avenue after Poe.

Sen. Grace Poe, daughter of the late king of Philippine movies, abstained during the voting.

Poe thanked her colleagues for supporting the passage of the measure.

House Bill 7499 had sought to rename Del Monte Avenue, located in Quezon City’s first legislative district, to Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue.

Del Monte Avenue traverses Barangays Nayong Kanluran, Paltok, Paraiso, Del Monte, Damayan, Masambong, Taiwan, Manresa, Siena, St. Peter, San Jose and N.S. Amoranto.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III introduced an amendment to Section 1 of the proposed measure renaming Roosevelt Avenue instead.

The amendment was accepted by Sen. Manny Pacquiao, chairman of the Senate committee on public works, who sponsored the bill.

Under the measure, the Department of Public Works and Highways will issue the circular needed to implement the provisions within 60 days from its effectivity.
