Ex-Leyte gov, Eastern Visayas cop chief die of COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Two former government officials, both natives of Palo town in Leyte, have died from complications of COVID-19.

Retired police general Asher Dolina, who was Eastern Visayas police director from 2014 to 2015, died while being treated in a hospital in Quezon City on Sept. 4.

On Sept. 6, former Leyte governor Leopoldo Petilla died, also due to complications of COVID-19 in a private hospital in this city.

Petilla’s daughter-in-law Palo Mayor Ann Petilla confirmed the death of the former governor.

Petilla served as  Leyte governor from 1992 to 1995.

Meanwhile, Mayor Carla Galvez-Tan of San Ildefonso, Bulacan confirmed on Thursday night that she tested positive for COVID-19 for the third time.

Tan said several members of her family were also infected.

The mayor contracted the virus in March and in June.

She received her COVID jab after she recovered from her second infection.

Tan reminded everyone to observe minimum health protocols to prevent the spread of the virus. – Ramon Efren Lazaro
