MANILA, Philippines — At least 34 senior citizens were transferred yesterday from the Hospicio de San Jose to the nearby Adamson University isolation facility to decongest the number of elderly and children confined in the shelter for COVID-19.

The Philippine Red Cross transferred the infected patients from the hospice to the PRC isolation facility.

Hospicio administrator Maria Socorro Evidente sought help from the PRC.

In a letter to PRC chairman Sen. Richard Gordon, Evidente said there are 108 active COVID cases and 30 symptomatic suspected cases in the hospice.

Evidente also thanked the PRC for vaccinating 150 residents and employees.

A total of 262 people in the hospice were fully vaccinated, Evidente said.

The children under the care of the hospice are not yet vaccinated, Evidente said. Almost half of the infected patients in the institution are children.
